BURNABY, B.C. – Riley Stockton registered a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double Saturday and was one of four double-figure scorers for Seattle Pacific in a 73-49 Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball victory over Simon Fraser at West Gym.

The Falcons (15-4) won their fourth consecutive league game to retain first place with a 6-2 record. Simon Fraser (7-8) remained winless in seven GNAC outings.

Senior point guard David Downs (Kirkland, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) paced SPU with 14 points and seven assists while junior center Cory Hutsen (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline HS) added 12 points.

Senior forward Patrick Simon (Ephrata, Wash./WSU) finished with 13 points, including the first and last baskets of the decisive stretch. The Falcons broke the game open midway through the first half with a run of 13 unanswered points.

After Ibrahim Appiah hit a jumper to draw the hosts within 16-12 with 12:24 left in the first half, the Clan did not score again for the next 8 minutes and 9 seconds. They missed eight straight shots and turned the ball over four times during that drought that ended when Justin Cole made a long jump shot at 4:15.

Meanwhile, SPU made 5 of 11 shots in that span, capped by Simon's layup at 4:26 that provided a 29-12 advantage.

The Falcons rode that run to a commanding 42-19 halftime margin. They shot 59 percent (17 of 29) during the opening 20 minutes while holding SFU at 30 percent (7 of 23).

Cole nailed a jumper to start the second-half scoring for the Clan, but SPU answered with the next nine points to stretch its lead to the largest of the night at 51-21.

Simon Fraser, which also had four double-digit scorers, never got closer than 20 points the rest of the game. Cole finished with 12 points to pace the Clan, who also got 11 from Taylor Dunn and 10 apiece from Appiah and Sango Niang.

The Falcons wound up shooting 57 percent (30 of 53) for the game and made 4 of 6 shots from 3-point range. Stockton's 10 rebounds helped his team win the board battle by a 32-25 margin. The double-double was his first of the season and third time in his career he achieved that feat.

A 6-foot-4 junior guard, Stockton (Spokane, Wash./Ferris HS) averaged 7.5 rebounds last year to become the shortest player ever to lead the GNAC in rebounding. He is the nephew of NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton who distributed a league record 15,806 assists during a 19-year career with the Utah Jazz.

Simon Fraser shot 39 percent for the game (21 of 54) and converted just 2 of 12 treys.

The SPU men conclude their three-game road trip next Saturday, Jan. 25 with a 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time game at Montana State Billings.
