NAMPA, Idaho – It wasn't Seattle Pacific's night in any way. And it was Northwest Nazarene's in almost every way.

Madi Cavell had 11 kills on Thursday, but 18th-ranked NNU hit .350 and dug up 58 of the Falcons' 112 attacks to sweep a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.

Scores in the Johnson Sports Center were 25-15, 25-19, 25-12.

The hitting percentage by the conference co-leading Crusaders (14-2, 7-1 GNAC) was the highest of any SPU opponent this season, topping the previous high of .244 by Western Washington on Sept. 25. Northwest Nazarene had 20 more kills (46-26) than the Falcons.

Seattle Pacific (10-6, 4-4 GNAC) were limited to a season-low .054 hitting, with Northwest Nazarene's 58 digs factoring into part of that. The Crusaders came in averaging 20.69 digs per game, tops in the GNAC and No. 3 in all of NCAA Division II.

They got another nine points on blocks.

"We got our butts kicked. They played great defense, and I think we found out why they're one of the top blocking and hitting teams in the country and on top of the conference," Seattle Pacific coach Chris Johnson said.

"We took a lot of good swings tonight, but they dug," he added. "It's hard to hit a ball against them."

Senior outside hitter Cavell (Keizer, Ore.) was the only player in double-figure kills for the Falcons, who fly back home on Friday, then head to Ellensburg on Saturday to face Central Washington at 7:00 p.m. in Nicholson Pavilion.

NNU built big early leads in the first and third games. In the opener, the Crusaders ran off six straight to go up 7-1, then later had another five in a row to make it 20-10. They hit .481 in that game, finding the floor with 14 kills before their first attack error.

In a back-and-forth Game 2, Seattle Pacific used a five-point surge to turn a 14-13 deficit into an 18-14 lead. But NNU rang up the next 10 points and 11 of the final 12 to take the game and a commanding 2-0 advantage.

With the third game tied at 2-2, Northwest Nazarene tallied five straight and 11 of 13 to go up, 13-4. The Falcons never came closer than six

Cavell's 11 kills and two service aces gave her 13 points for the night, putting her at 988 for her career. On Saturday, she'll have a chance to become the ninth Seattle Pacific player to top 1,000 since that became an official stat in 2004.
