SEATTLE – Cory Hutsen poured in 15 of his 21 points during the first half, and 22nd-ranked Seattle Pacific limited Minnesota Crookston to the lowest opponent score in 193 games in a 90-38 rout in the final game of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Hutsen, a 6-foot-8 senior, connected on 10 of 15 attempts as the Falcons (1-1) shot 60 percent (33 of 55) from he field. Matt Borton added 15 points and Mitch Penner came off the bench for 14.

It was the most lopsided win and fewest points allowed for SPU since beating Montana State Billings, 90-34, during the 2007-08 campaign.

After losing a season-opener for the first time in nine years, Seattle Pacific bounced back by quickly seizing command against the Golden Eagles (0-2). Just 20 seconds after entering the contest Penner went to work, scoring seven of an unanswered 16 points for a 16-3 Falcons lead after just six minutes.

"I'm excited about how the guys responded," coach Ryan Looney said "We didn't feel like we played extremely well in either of our exhibitions or our first game in this tournament. We challenged our guys to do a better job in some really important areas, and I thought they did."

Two short-range baskets by Hutsen sparked another 11-2 run to end the half ahead, 43-20 A pair of hoops midway through the second period pushed the margn to 66-24. Hutsen left the game with 8:21 remaining.

The lead eventually bulged to 54 points with 74 seconds to go. A total of 12 different SPU players scored.

The Golden Eagles got six points apiece from Derrick Redd and Giorgi Koguashvili.

Borton scored nine points in as many minutes of the second half.

Minnesota Crookston made just 12 of 44 field goal attempts, committed 18 turnovers, and was out-rebounded 38-23.

Penner and Hutsen each made the all-tournament team. Central Washington, which won both of its games, was represented by Jordan Russell and Joseph Stroud. Alexis Moore of Academy of Art was voted MVP.

The Falcons host Evergreen State on Tuesday before playing the next five games in Hawaii. Great Northwest Athletic Conference play begins Dec. 4.

"We tinkered with our lineup a little bit tonight. I liked different combination of people that we put on the floor," Looney said "Hopefully, that will help move us forward."
