OLYMPIA, Wash. – Madi Cavell finished her Seattle Pacific volleyball career in style on Saturday night, slamming 18 kills and making it a double-double with 10 digs as the Falcons swept Saint Martin's in the season finale.
 
Scores of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at Capital High School were 25-16, 25-22, 25-19. The Falcons (12-14, 6-12 GNAC) halted a six-match skid.
 
"It felt good to play well again," SPU coach Chris Johnso said, "and see our seniors perform well in their last match ever. It was just a well-played match by us."
 
The double-double for senior hitter / blocker Cavell (Keizer, Ore.) was her 10^th of the season and 24^th of her career. The 18 kills – the last of which came on match point – helped her break her single-season career high, as she wound up with 366. Her final SPU total for four years was 953. She hit a solid .295.
                                                                       
Freshman opposite Hannah Lautenbach (Portland, Ore.) had 10 digs. Senior setter Sara Biondi (Sacramento, Calif.) earned 25 assists, and senior libero Brianna Leenders (Portland, Ore.) had nine digs. That gave Leenders 1,570 for her career as she finished No. 2 on the all-time SPU list for that category and No. 11 on the GNAC career list.
 
Senior setter / serving specialist Kendall Carver (Irvine, Calif.)  served a career-best four aces in her final match as a Falcon.
 
After yielding the first point of the match, Seattle Pacific ran off nine straight to take command of Game 1. Saint Martin's (4-26, 1-17 GNAC) was up 21-20 in the second game when the Falcons strung together four in a row. A 5-1 run early in Game 3 snapped a 4-4 tie, and SPU never trailed again.
 
"We're looking forward to next year," Johnson said "But we'll definitely miss this group of seniors and what their contributions were to the team and their teammates."
