Lexi Biondi had 11 kills, and
Breanne Wiekamp came up with 19 digs in just three games, but Central Washington swept Seattle Pacific in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday night.
Scores in Nicholson Pavilion were 25-16, 25-20, 25-15.
The 19 digs for senior libero Wiekamp (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) pushed her career total to 1,185. She needs just eight more to move into the No. 7 spot on SPU's all-time career list. Wiekamp also had three of SPU's four service aces on Saturday.
Senior middle blocker
Luisa McInnis (Santa Rosa, Calif) and freshman middle
Shaun Crespi (Camarillo, Calif.) had three blocks each for the Falcons (7-19, 5-13 GNAC). Freshman setter
Symone Tran (Portland, Ore.) had 23 assists.
Crespi, senior outside hitter
Ellie Britt (Orange, Calif.) and sophomore opposite
Hannah Lautenbach (Portland, Ore.) added six kills apiece for SPU.
Seattle Pacific had a 6-3 lead in the opening game before Central (19-6, 15-3 GNAC) ran off nine straight points to take the lead for good.
The Wildcats used a 6-1 run to snap a 14-14 tie in Game 2. They then took control of the third game with a string of six straight points to stretch a 12-10 lead to 18-10.
Central Washington hit .252 for the match, led by the .615 performance of 6-foot-3 sophomore middle blocker Sabrina Wheelhouse. She came into the night hitting .361 for the season, the second-best mark in the GNAC.
SPU finished at .051 hitting, with Crespi's .231 leading the way.
"We played much better defense than the last time we saw them, although they still hit .252," Falcons coach
Chris Johnson said. "Bre had 19 digs, and 16 of those in the last two sets, so she played really well."
Saturday's match concluded the road schedule. The Falcons conclude the season at home this coming week against Western Washington on Thursday night and Simon Fraser on Saturday, both at 7:00 p.m. The Saturday match against the Clan will be Senior Night in honor of
Jessica Boyle, Britt, McInnis, and Wiekamp.
