SEATTLE – Lexi Biondi had 16 kills, Symone Tran double-doubled for the 12th time, and Breanne Wiekamp moved up the career digs ladder, but No. 16-ranked Western Washington had 40 kills and hit .233 to sweep Seattle Pacific in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.

Scores in Brougham Pavilion on Thursday were 25-21, 25-18, 25-18.

Sophomore outside hitter Biondi (Albuquerque, N.M.) hit .275 for the Falcons (7-20, 5-14 GNAC), with just five errors on 40 attacks. Freshman setter Tran (Portland, Ore.) put 27 assists and 12 digs into the book. Tran's assist total moved her beyond 800. She now has 802.

Breanne Wiekamp
Senior libero Wiekamp climbed into the No. 7 spot on SPU's all-time digs list. Wiekamp (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) came up with 15, giving her an even 1,200 in her four years with the Falcons. She passed Danielle Dettorre, who had 1,192 from 1996-99.

Wiekamp also pushed her single-season total above 500 for the first time. She has 501 heading into Saturday's finale.

"Those are great milestones," head coach Chris Johnson said. "Bre played especially well."

Senior outside hitter Ellie Britt (Orange, Calif.) had nine kills, giving her 208 for the season. It's the first time she has topped 200 in a single year.

Sophomore opposite Hannah Lautenbach led Seattle Pacific with 19 digs, coming within one of her career high.

"Hannah played a great defensive match," Johnson said. "And it was one of Lexi's best matches in a while. It was good to see her firing for a good percentage and making good choices."

The Falcons climbed out of an early four-point hole with a 7-2 scoring run to take a 9-8 lead in the opening game. With the score tied at 11-11, Western Washington (22-5, 16-3 GNAC) scored eight of the next 10 points for a 19-13 advantage.

SPU twice got as close as two, the last time at 23-21.

Except for a 2-2 tie, the Vikings led all the way in Game 2. Western was in front for the entirety of the third game.

"I thought we played with some grit tonight," Johnson said. "We had some good defensive plays, some great digs, and some really long rallies. We had some people taking some awesome swings, which was all really good to see."

Seattle Pacific hit .130 for the match (37-19-138).

Rachel Roeder led the Vikings with 13 kills and hit .500, making just one error on 24 attacks.

Saturday's season finale against Simon Fraser will be Senior Night. A brief ceremony prior to the 7:00 p.m. first serve will honor Jessica Boyle, Britt, Luisa McInnis, and Wiekamp.

The Falcons will try to gain some redemption against the Clan, who came from two games down, then erased an 8-1 deficit in the deciding fifth game to beat SPU on Sept. 17 in Burnaby, B.C.

"We've been kind of eying that date on the calendar since the last time we played them," Johnson said. "We all really want that one, and we'll be ready."
