PORTLAND, Ore. – For a while, It was all going Seattle Pacific's way on Thursday night … and then it wasn't.

The Concordia Cavaliers overcame a nine-point deficit in Game 2 and went on to sweep the Falcons in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.

Scores on Cavalier Court were 25-14, 26-24, 25-22.

After a rocky start in the opening game, the Falcons (8-11, 4-7 GNAC) came out sharp in the second game and ran off nine straight points to turn a 5-5 tie into a 14-5 advantage.

It was still a nine-point margin at 15-6 when the Cavaliers (11-8, 7-4 GNAC) began to climb back into it. Twice, they got within one, the last time at 22-21. Junior outside hitter Colleen Hannigan gave SPU a 24-21 lead, first with a kill, then with a service ace.

But Concordia ran off the final five points of the game, the last two on kills by Brenna Huwe, to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

"We just weren't passing very well," SPU coach Chris Johnson said. "The middle of that second game, we gave them a big run. The got into some hot servers, and we were passing balls right into the net. Our serve receive just wasn't what it has been."

Seattle Pacific built a 15-12 lead in the third game. The Cavaliers ran off six in a row, going up 18-15, and never trailed again. The Falcons tried to rally late, trimming a 23-17 deficit to 23-21, but were not able to catch up the rest of the way.

Hannigan, stepping into the starting lineup for injured freshman star Gabby Oddo, led SPU with 10 kills and hit a solid .292 (10 kills-3 errors-24 attacks). Senior outside hitter Lexi Biondi added nine kills, and freshman middle blocker Abbey Lautenbach hit .444 (5-1-9).

"Colleen did a great job. It was her first start in a while, and I was happy with the way she played and what she was able to do out there," Johnson said. "Abbey hit for a good percentage, and that's always good. We would have liked to get more balls to Abbey and Shaun (Crespi), but our ball control wasn't allowing that."

Sophomore setter Symone Tran had 27 assists, and junior defensive specialist Sophie Kuehl came up with a team-high 11 digs.

Concordia had three players in double-digit kills, led by Huwe's 11.

Seattle Pacific plays at Western Oregon on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Falcons swept the Wolves last month in Brougham Pavilion.
