LACEY, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific Falcons were on target Tuesday night.
Hannah Lautenbach and
Shaun Crespi both hit for better than .400, with Lautenbach racking up 12 kills as Seattle Pacific swept Saint Martin's in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.
Scores in Marcus Pavilion were 25-16, 25-22, 25-19.
Junior opposite Lautenbach (Portland, Ore.) had just two errors on her 23 attacks for a .435 percentage, and added nine digs. Sophomore middle blocker Crespi (Camarillo, Calif.) swung 15 times with just two errors, hitting .467.
The Falcons (10-13, 6-9 GNAC) hit .260 as a team, with 45 kills and just 13 errors on 123 attacks.
"I was really happy with our offense for most of the night," coach
Chris Johnson said. "On most of our errors, we were going for the right things. We were taking good, aggressive swings."
Senior outside hitter
Lexi Biondi (Albuquerque, N.M.) put 10 kills and two service aces into the book.
Symone Tran
The Falcons had seven aces altogether, with sophomore setter
Symone Tran (Portland, Ore.) delivering two, and recording another 39 assists The latter pushed her past 900 for the season, now at 919. She is on track to become the first SPU setter with 1,000 assists in a season since Shelby Swanson logged 1,105 in 2012.
Tran also had three kills and three blocks on Tuesday.
"Symone was fantastic, and 45 kills for us in three sets was great," Johnson said. "We had really good numbers across the board and did a great job in terms of scoring points and attacking offensively."
Seattle Pacific never trailed and was never tied in the opening game. It also scored the first four points of Game 2 before Saint Martin's (6-13, 2-13 GNAC) put up six in a row.
The Saints were up 20-17 when SPU went on an 8-2 run to close out the game. Sophomore libero
Amanda Ganete (Hillsboro, Ore.), who once again led the team in digs, this time with 19, served up three of those points, starting with an ace.
Seattle Pacific was down 18-17 in the third game when it ran off five straight. Ganete was on the serve for the last four of those, and Biondi factored into three of them with two kills and a solo block.
"I think tonight, we just had some steady pressure all three sets," Ganete said. "Even when we were down and had some runs, it didn't feel frantic on the court. We were confident. We knew we could just play steady, put the ball away and come out with a win. Our offense really stepped it up."
Junior outside hitter
Colleen Hannigan (Brentwood, Calif.) came up with 12 digs, the second time in the past three matches she has been in double digits. She also had eight kills.
SPU beat Saint Martin's for the 30th straight time, a streak which began in 2002.
Tuesday's match was Seattle Pacific's first conference road victory of the season. It also was the first of four straight away from home, with Montana State Billings up next on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Pacific time.
