Seattle Pacific hung close to the Vikings (18-7, 14-3 GNAC) throughout the first two games, hitting .208 in Game 1 and .200 in Game 2.

"The first two games, we played pretty well," coach Chris Johnson said. "We came out aggressive, and I really liked the way we were swinging. Colleen played especially great."

WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE
Western had a 12-9 lead in the first game before SPU went on a 6-2 run to take a 15-14 edge. The Vikings then ran off four in a row and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Seattle Pacific had the upper hand for the first half of Game 2, leading by as many as three. The score was tied at 19-19 when Western Washington put four of the next five points on the board.

Western bolted to a 5-1 lead in the third game. SPU twice cut it to two, the last time at 7-5. The Vikings went on a 7-1 roll, expanding it to 14-6, and took it in from there.

Michaela Hall was the only WWU player in double-digit kills, finishing with 10. But she and five of her teammates had attack totals ranging from14 to 29, with one going for nine kills and three more adding eight apiece.

"Western is a very balanced team that doesn't make mistakes," Johnson said. "They run a 6-2 (system), and all six had double-digit attacks. You can't just pick out one or two – you have to defend all six of them."

The Falcons finished with a .170 hitting percentage (38 kills-15 errors-135 attacks). Besides Hannigan (11-3-40) and Abbey Lautenbach (4-0-8), two other SPU players – Hannah Lautenbach (7-3-32) and Lexi Biondi (6-3-32) – kept their errors within Johnson's goal of 10 percent or less of total attacks.

Western hit .317 (48-9-123), led by the error-free mark of sophomore middle blocker Kayleigh Harper (9-0-16—.562).
