SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific Falcons gave nationally ranked Alaska Anchorage all it could handle.

Hannah Lautenbach had 13 kills, and the Falcons kept things close most of the way, forging in front on several occasions, but the No. 9-ranked Seawolves still left Brougham Pavilion with a 3-0 sweep of their Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Thursday night.

Scores were 25-21, 28-26, 25-21.

Junior opposite Lautenbach (Portland, Ore.) hit .294, with just three errors on 34 attacks. She was the only player in double-digit kills for SPU (10-17, 6-13 GNAC).

Junior outside hitter Colleen Hannigan (Brentwood, Calif.) added seven kills and had a team-leading 17 digs. Hannigan pushed past 200 points (kills-aces-blocks) for her career, now with 204.5.

Amanda Ganete
Sophomore setter Symone Tran (Portland, Ore.) had 34 assists, and freshman middle blocker Abbey Lautenbach had four total blocks, with a career-high two solos. Sophomore libero Amanda Ganete (Hillsboro, Ore.) had nine digs, moving her past 500 for the season. She now has 503.

"We did a good job of staying aggressive from start to finish and really attacking their personal where we wanted to and where we thought their weaknesses were," Falcons coach Chris Johnson said. "I liked the way we executed our game plan in that sense, and we stayed with it."

Seattle Pacific concludes the season on Saturday against Alaska Fairbanks at 7:00 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion. That will be Senior Night in honor of Biondi and Maddi Hommes prior to the first serve.

Saturday also will be a 2-for-1 day. The Falcon men's basketball team plays Dixie State at 3:00 p.m. in the final game of the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Classic. Fans who come to Brougham and purchase a ticket for that game can use that same ticket to get into the volleyball match against Fairbanks at no extra charge.

Alaska Anchorage (28-2, 18-1 GNAC), which clinched the conference crown with the win, had an 18-11 lead in the opening when SPU began to climb back into it. The Falcons ran off three straight points on a kill by Shaun Crespi, a combined block by Crespi and Tran, and a kill by Lexi Biondi to get within 24-21 before UAA got the final point.

Seattle Pacific rallied again in Game 2, this time wiping out and early three-point deficit and taking a 14-11 lead. The Seawolves responded with a 9-2 run to go up 20-16. Seattle Pacific tied it, and again at 23, 24, 25, and 26, but was unable to get back in front.

The Falcons went from three points down early in the third game to two points up at 14-12. Alaska Anchorage answered with four in a row and stayed in front the rest of the way.

SPU hit .180 on Thursday (37 kills-15 errors-122 attacks). That included .256 in Game 2 (15-5-43). The overall mark was a significant improvement from the .079 mark against the Seawolves two months ago in Alaska.

"Abbey and Hannah had great nights," Johnson said. "Colleen played some great defense, and so did Sophie (Kuehl). There was some great, scrappy play, and some interesting points.

"I'm really happy with the way we played – nothing to hang our heads about at all."

Anchorage, with 14 kills and .400 hitting from freshman Diana Fa'amausili, hit .226 (52-22-133).
