SEATTLE – That's the kind of a finish the Seattle Pacific Falcons had in mind.

Colleen Hannigan
Colleen Hannigan recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs on Saturday night, as SPU wrapped up its 2016 volleyball schedule with a three-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference sweep of Alaska Fairbanks.

Scores in Brougham Pavilion were 25-22, 25-14, 25-13.

"I was happy with everything about that match," coach Chris Johnson said. "We were getting them out of system, we converted a lot of digs to kills, and we got sideouts on the first swing a number of times, which was good to see. We did a good job of keeping the momentum once we got it. And we didn't have a bad outing by any of our hitters – they all hit for pretty good percentages."

Junior outside hitter Hannigan (Brentwood, Calif.) hit .300 for the night, with just one error on 30 attacks on the way to the fourth double-double of her career, all of them coming this season. She also had two block assists.

Senior outside hitter Lexi Biondi (Albuquerque, N.M.) concluded her career with nine kills and .286 hitting. That gave her more than 200 kills for the second straight season, as she finished with 207.

Maddi Hommes, the other honoree on Saturday's Senior Night, had seven kills, three blocks, and hit .357. Her first kill was the first point of the match for SPU, which finished 11-17 overall and 7-13 in the GNAC.

"Maddi just played fantastic tonight. – I was so proud of her and so happy for her," Johnson said. "And Lexi was great tonight. She took a lot of smart swings, and a lot of powerful swings."

Shaun Crespi
Sophomore middle blocker Shaun Crespi (Camarillo, Calif.) had four block assists and hit a team-high .533 (9 kills-1 error-15 attacks). That gave her 151 total blocks for the season, the first SPU player in nearly a quarter century to exceed 150. The last one to do it was Tosca Lindberg with 193 total blocks in 1992.

Junior opposite Hannah Lautenbach (Portland, Ore.) also had four blocks, along with seven kills. Sophomore setter Symone Tran (Portland, Ore.) had 34 assists, giving her 1,085 for the year. She will head into the 2017 season with 1,917 for her career, just 83 away from her 2,000th. Junior defensive specialist Sophie Kuehl (Vancouver, Wash. / Columbia River HS) led with 12 digs.

The Falcons were down 5-4 in the first game when they ran off five points in a row for a 9-5 lead. Fairbanks (3-24, 2-18 GNAC) put together four in a row for a 9-9 tie, but never went back in front. SPU took command with a 6-1 run, extending a 15-14 lead to 21-15.

After allowing the first two points of Game 2, Seattle Pacific put five straight on the board and never trailed again. Those five points included a four straight from the two seniors: two straight kills by Biondi for a 3-2 lead, a combined block by Biondi and Hommes for 4-2, and a Hommes dunk at the net for 5-2.

A 7-0 spurt early in the third game turned a 4-2 deficit into a 9-4 lead, and the Nanooks never got closer than four.

Seattle Pacific hit .296 for the night (43-11-108), its second-highest performance of the season. (The only better one was .327 against Western Oregon on Sept. 24.) The Falcons limited Fairbanks to just 24 kills and .000 hitting, the third time this season they have kept an opponent below .100.
