ANCHORAGE Alaska – With both teams minus their top guns, it was a grind. But Seattle Pacific got clutch points from Nathan Streufert to forge a late lead that it would not relinquish in a 57-54 Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball victory against Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night.

Following up a season-high scoring output in Thursday's 95-79 victory at Alaska Fairbanks, Coleman Wooten led SPU with 15 points and nine rebounds at Alaska Airlines Center. But it was Wooten's fourth assist that proved decisive.

Wooten drove across the lane before dishing to Streufert on a backside cut for the dunk and a 53-49 advantage with 55 seconds remaining. Earlier, Streufert had hit two free throws to put the visitors on top for good, 51-49.

Gabe Colosimo
Gabe Colosimo sank three of his four free throws in the final 18 seconds, preventing the Seawolves from getting closer than three.

By sweeping the Alaska trip for the fifth time in six years Seattle Pacific kept pace with GNAC leader Western Washington and second-place Western Oregon. The Falcons (9-4, 4-2) won their third straight in conference and fifth out six overall since November.

Playing without top scorer Tony Miller (18.0), it was the lowest scoring production for SPU in 30 games. The Falcons, after a blistering shooting display at Fairbanks, missed 32 of 52 field-goal attempts, including 9 of 12 outside the arc.

Anchorage (3-3, 7-7), however, experienced an even deeper freeze, hitting 35 percent (20-57).

Behind Wooten and Streufert's 11 boards, Seattle Pacific held a commanding 41-33 advantage in rebounds. Streufert also had 10 points.

Alaska's D.J. Ursery led all scorers with 23 points. Ursery was still hobbling on an ankle that forced him to miss the Seawolves' home loss to Saint Martin's on Thursday. UAA top scorer Jacob Lampkin is out indefinitely since suffering a fractured foot four games ago.

Coleman Wooten
Wooten's presence was impactful, particularly in the first half. While he was on the floor, SPU outscored the hosts, 20-9.

Wooten, coming off 20 points at Fairbanks, scored three times in the opening six minutes, but exited soon after with two quick fouls. He re-entered with the Falcons trailing, 19-16.

After Colosimo drained the game's first 3-pointer to tie it, Wooten converted a rebound, muscled inside for a basket and then connected on a left-corner trey. That 12-0 run put the visitors up by nine, 28-19.

Neither side could generate much rhythm in the opening 20 minutes. Combined, the teams missed 17 of 20 three-pointers. Seattle Pacific led, thanks to their dominance of the glass (25-16), with Wooten grabbing seven.

The Seawolves' Ursery returned after missing Thursday's loss to Saint Martin's. He converted 5 of his first 6 attempts from the field (10 points) for a 16-14 lead. However, Ursery did not score in the final eight minutes of the opening half.

Anchorage 3-pointers on either side of halftime trimmed its nine-point deficit to 28-25. Josiah Wood gave UAA a short-lived lead on a pair of foul shots with 10:32 left. Streufert countered with a tying layup and Nikhil Lizotte made two from the stripe following a technical call on the Alaska bench. SPU never trailed thereafter.

The Falcons return home to face Concordia on Thursday night, the first of four straight at Brougham Pavilion.
