Falcons hit 61 percent from field, 90 percent from foul line in 94-66 romp

BURNABY, B.C. – Gavin Long led the way with 17 points. 10 of those during a dominant first half, helping Seattle Pacific to an impressive 94-66 men's basketball victory against Simon Fraser in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night in West Gym.
 
The Falcons (6-3) won their fourth consecutive game, improving to 3-1 in GNAC play. It was their second-highest point total of the season (topped only by the 97 scored against Central Washington on Dec. 1).
 
SPU shot 61.2 percent for the game (30 of 49), including 67.9 percent in the first half (19 of 28). It also enjoyed one of its best free throw shooting nights of the season at 90.6 percent (29 of 32).

After the Clan opened the scoring, the Falcons responded with eight consecutive points off back-to-back 3-pointers from Harry Cavell and Nikhil Lizotte and a runner in the lane from Long.
 
The teams were tied 12-12 with 14 minutes left in the first half when Seattle Pacific pulled permanently in front. The Falcons went on a 22-6 run through the final nine minutes of the half, and were up 49-25 at the break.
 
Senior forwards Coleman Wooten and Sam Simpson added nine points each through the opening 20 minutes.
 
The Clan cut the lead to 15 at 62-47 with 12:03 left in the second half, but the Falcons pushed on and never let Simon Fraser get any closer.
 
Freshman guard Divant'e Moffitt gave Seattle Pacific its largest lead in the game with a lay-up, pushing it to 90-58 with 3:16 left. Along with his career-high 14 points, Moffitt had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
 
Wooten finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal before he fouled out with 2:33 left in the game. Simpson chipped in 11 points along with four rebounds, and two steals.
 
Moffitt's 14 beat his previous career best of 13, set on Dec. 1 against Central. Also in double digits were Lizotte (14), and Cavell (13).
  
Sophomore center Julian Roche led Simon Fraser with 16 points. The Clan lost their second straight, having dropped a 20-point decision to No. 21-ranked Saint Martin's on Thursday.
 
SPU returns home to Brougham Pavilion on Thursday against Alaska Fairbanks at 7:00 p.m.
