SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific Falcons got the attacks they wanted.

The Concordia-Portland Cavaliers did everything they could to keep those attacks off the floor.

Gabby Oddo recorded her eighth double-double of the season, this one with 12 kills and 15 digs, but Concordia outdid SPU in kills, aces, and blocks – not to mention 84 digs – to beat the Falcons in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Thursday night.

Scores in Brougham Pavilion were 25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-15.

"You're swinging high and hard, and their libero was getting everything up," coach Abbie Wright said of CU's Callie Wilkins, who had 32 digs – seven more than anyone else had come up with against the Falcons this fall. "Concordia played really well. They came ready to play, and so did we. I thought our mental state and drive were good.

"At the end of the day, a few more things went their way."

Maddie Batiste added eight kills and 15 digs for the Falcons (4-9, 1-4 GNAC).

Concordia-Portland (5-7, 3-2 GNAC) had the edge on SPU in kills (55-46), service aces (8-4) and blocks (11-8). The Falcons did have eight more attack (165-157).

GOT AHEAD, STAYED AHEAD
In the three games the Cavaliers won on Iron Coaching Court, they were tied just twice and never trailed.

Knotted at 11-11 in the opener, Concordia ran off eight straight points to take command. SPU later bounced back, ringing up six straight with Erin Gould on the serve to trim a 23-14 deficit to 23-20 before CU got the last two.

The Cavs did not have any lengthy scoring runs in Game 2, but just steadily pulled away. Then, they were up 11-6 in Game 3 when the Falcons got going with six straight points, the last five with Lindsey Lambert serving, to go up 12-11. Concordia took it right back at 14-12, but SPU responded with another five-point burst, this time with Oddo on the serve, and remained in front the rest of the way.

The fourth game quickly turned in CU's favor, as it scored the first five points. Seattle Pacific gradually climbed back in, coming as close as 15-14. The Cavaliers tallied 10 of the final 11 points, including a string of eight in a row, to close out the match.

"There's a lot we did really well," Wright said. "Delaney Dunham had a great match (with six kills and five blocks), and Katie Mansfield had a great match (with a career-high 15 digs). We were really flexible with some of the changes we made. I'm really proud of those kids who played outside their role and did a great job.

"It's just a matter of us sustaining and working through some of the challenges."
