SEATTLE -- Another day. Another win. Another high scorer.

Harry Cavell tallied 19 of his career-high 27 points during the first half Saturday for Seattle Pacific which defeated Simon Fraser 94-68 for its 14th consecutive victory, the second longest men's basketball winning streak in school history.

After losing their first four games of the season, the Falcons have reeled off 14 victories to draw within one of the school-record 15-game winning streak established in 2002. They seek to surpass that standard during next week's two-game road trip to Alaska.

"It's pretty cool. Anytime you can accomplish something like that at a program that has the history and tradition that SPU does, that's something to be proud of," exclaimed SPU coach Grant Leep. "We obviously still need to keep focus on what our larger goals are.

"We didn't set out at the start of the year saying we wanted to have a 14-game win streak. We wanted to put ourselves in position to win our conference. If we continue to play like we did tonight, we should come close on that goal."

Another streak was extended as the Falcons registered their 20th consecutive regular-season victory over a Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent, dating back to their last league setback on Jan. 26, 2019.

HARRY CAVELL DUNK

 Balanced Attack
Seven different players have served as SPU's game scoring leader during the undefeated 14-game stretch and Saturday was the first time Cavell did so. He also led all players with nine rebounds.

The 6-foot-6 junior guard hit 9 of 11 shots from the field and all six of his free throws. Cavell eclipsed his previous high game of 20 points, recorded on Feb. 3, 2018 versus Alaska Fairbanks.

"I love the fact that we're as balanced on offense as we are. When you prepare to play SPU, you're not focusing around one or two guys. You have to prepare for our whole team," Leep said.

"We want to recruit and have guys in our program who can finish on the end of plays as well as create plays for others. We're finding that."

Perfect at the Midway Mark
Seattle Pacific (14-4) improved to 10-0 in GNAC play, having defeated every conference foe once.

SPU replicated the feat of the 2018 Western Washington squad, the only previous team to go undefeated through the first half of league play since the GNAC expanded to 11 teams in 2015-16. The sobering news for the Falcons is that WWU didn't win the 2018 regular-season title, finishing second in the standings with a 16-4 record.

"The GNAC has been so deep and so strong the last few years. We can't take any of this for granted," said Leep. "We enjoy what we've done, but at the same time we have to stay sharp, we have to stay aware that we still have 10 more conference games left against very good opponents.

"We have to go on the road for a handful of those and take care of business away from home. We want to get everybody's best shot, we expect to get everybody's best shot and we need to ready ourselves for that."

HARRY CAVELL INTERVIEW

Divant'e Moffitt amassed 23 points and eight rebounds for SPU. Filip Fullerton scored 12 points and Braden Olsen had 10 to go along with his four assists.

The Falcons topped the 50-percent shooting plateau for the eighth time this season and they emerged a winner in each of those outings. They shot 54 percent (35 of 65) on Saturday.

Simon Fraser (12-7) was held to 41-percent shooting (24 of 58) and saw its GNAC record evened at 5-5.

Wilfried Balata erupted for 19 second-half points to push his team-high total to 24. Jasdeep Singh was the Clan's only other double-figure scorer, with 11.

Fantastic First Half
The Falcons fashioned a fantastic first half, shooting 57 percent (20 of 35) en route to a season-high halftime total of 57 points. They held the Clan to 35-percent accuracy (10 of 29).

The teams traded baskets for the opening four minutes and Simon Fraser led 7-6 after Balata nailed a 3-pointer with 16:39 showing on the clock.

SPU scored the next 10 points, beginning with a spinning shot in the lane by Cavell, to ignite a 25-5 spree that broke the game open. Cavell compiled eight points during that surge.

Mehdi El Mardi capped the run with a put-back layup to forge a 31-12 Falcons advantage with 9:09 left in the period.

That lead continued to grow, fueled by a 13-point run that was comprised entirely of points from Moffitt (7) and Cavell (6).

The final five points of the half were netted by Falcons, including a tip-in at the buzzer by Cavell that set the halftime score at 57-28 in favor of the hosts. Sharif Khan fired a trey on the fastbreak as time was winding down and Cavell got a hand between two visiting players to tip the ball into the basket as the horn sounded.

Hindering Harry
The only person to stop Cavell all night was Coach Leep, who removed him with 8:17 left to play shortly after his player of the game grabbed a ninth rebound. The outcome was not in doubt at that juncture.

"Harry was so locked in and ready to go today. His ability to finish and the improvements that he's made this year as a 3-point shooter are great," Leep said. "He works really hard and is the best two-way player in our league. He defends the best offensive player on our opponent nearly every night and still plays at such a high level on the offensive end."

SPU capitalized on a wide turnover disparity in the opening 20 minutes, parlaying 10 Clan miscues directly into 22 points while only yielding one point on three turnovers of its own.

Second-Half Summary
In the second half, the margin increased to a high of 36 points after another Cavell tip-in produced a 75-39 score with 13:10 left to play.

Simon Fraser chipped away at that deficit and utilized a nine-point surge to trim the margin to 83-60 with 5:08 remaining. Balata notched the final seven points of that run, but that is as close as the Clan could come.

Next Games
The SPU men trek north to Alaska for a pair of games next week. They visit Fairbanks on Thursday and Anchorage on Saturday. Both games are slated for 8:30 p.m. Pacific Time starts.

Despite embarking on a road trip in pursuit of a school-record winning streak and retaining their perfect league ledger, the Falcons have other motivations in mind.

"The fact that we are undefeated on the road, they're taking a lot of pride in that," said Leep, whose team won all eight of its road contests.

"It's a business trip. We're out representing our school and representing our program. Individually, we're all representing our families. Our guys take that really serious and they want to take care of business when we go into another team's gym."
