SEATTLE -- Divant'e Moffitt led five double-figure scorers with 19 points Saturday for Seattle Pacific, which maintained its four-game lead atop the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball standings with a 91-55 home triumph over Concordia-Portland.

The Falcons (17-5) won their third straight game, improving the league ledger to 13-1. They were victorious in 17 of the last 18 outings, including Thursday's 83-82 home win over Western Oregon.

"I was pleased that our group came out as ready as they did," said SPU coach Grant Leep. "Everybody that played contributed to the win, everybody made some positive plays. We had a lot of team plays where multiple guys touched the ball, multiple paint-touches and then just finding open threes or layups."

Moffitt, a sophomore point guard from Spanaway Lake (Wash.) High School, compiled 10 points during the first half when SPU gained control. For the game he made 7 of 11 shots from the field and distributed five assists.

Harry Cavell added 17 points and paced the Falcons 38-29 advantage on the boards with nine rebounds.

SPU got 14 points from Shaw Anderson, 12 from Braden Olsen and 11 from Filip Fullerton.

BRADEN OLSEN INTERVIEW

The Falcons shot 53 percent as a team (29 of 55), including 15-for-32 accuracy from 3-point range.

Concordia (3-19) was limited to 33-percent shooting (21 of 64) and saw its GNAC record drop to 2-12.

"We talked a lot tonight about using our defense to create offense for us and not have it be the other way around," said Leep, whose team parlayed 17 CU turnovers directly into 23 points. "Not to live in the past, but on Thursday we were surviving on making shots for a while and lost some of that defensive identity.

"Tonight, we were able to maintain that defensive identity all the way through and that let us get out in transition. It allowed us to go find some layups, some easy baskets and some open looks at threes. Our guys did a really good job of executing our game plan and taking care of business tonight."

Dom Bradley was the only visiting player in double digits, with 15 points.

After Bryce Cheney opened the game with a jumper in the lane for the Cavaliers, SPU netted the next 10 points.

Concordia kept in contact early drawing within 13-9 on two free throws from Dakota Ayala. The Falcons then staged a 14-2 spree to stretch the differential to 27-11 and they led by double-figures the rest of the way.

Marvelous Marksman
Long-distance shooting accounted for all of Anderson's shots. He hit 4 of 7 treys, including one at the end of the first period that produced SPU's 40-26 halftime lead.

Anderson drained his first two long-range shots, extending his streak to 11 consecutive 3-pointers, before missing one with 2:14 showing on the first-half clock. He hit his final trey at Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 30 and was 3-for-3 at Anchorage on Feb. 1 and 5-for-5 versus Western Oregon on Feb. 6.

The 6-foot-6 freshman forward from Kelso (Wash.) High School is converting 3-pointers at a remarkable 59.8-percent clip (49 of 82) on the season. That is superior to his overall field goal figure of 56.8 percent (100 of 176).

SHAW ANDERSON 3-POINTER

"Shaw's percentage has been through the roof," Leep exclaimed. "Some of it is him being comfortable within our offense and taking what's there.

"We've got some guys who can really shoot it all the way through our program. Our bigs are good, skilled players that can shoot. Anytime you make 15 threes in a game you are pleased with that. I loved the way that we got most of them, off of paint-touches first, more clean looks, more open looks."

The hosts matched their season-high total of 15 treys, a figure they first posted in Thursday. SPU shot above 50 percent on 3-pointers for the week, converting 26 of 51 attempts from behind the arc.

The Falcons started Saturday's second half with a 12-2 run for a 52-28 lead and later a 15-point run fueled by nine points from Fullerton pushed it to 79-48.

That margin grew to a high of 36 points at game's end after Mehdi El Mardi and Jacob Medjo each made a layup during the final minute.

Next Game
The SPU men conclude the current three-game homestand on Tuesday against Saint Martin's. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Brougham Pavilion.

"It's nice that we get to be home on Tuesday. That has its advantages, we don't have to worry about travel," Leep said. "Our guys being smart is the key, making sure to get rest understanding the priority is to finish out the season the right way. They're doing a really good job of that stuff, taking care of their bodies.

"With these quick turnarounds, being able to extend that lead tonight was great. We didn't have to play guys as heavy minutes as we normally have."

The Falcons travel to Billings on Thursday to complete a hectic stretch of four games in eight days.
