PORTLAND, Ore. – On the volleyball court, hitting in the .200 range is a good, in the .300s is very good, and .400 or higher is great.
In the classroom, Seattle Pacific players are doing even better than that.
They're hitting 1.000.
Of the seven Falcons who were eligible for nomination to this year's Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic team, all seven made the grade when the squad was announced on Tuesday.
Leading the way is three-time honoree
Gabi Stegemoller, joined by second-timers
Maddie Batiste and
Erin Gould, and first-time selections
Ashley Antoniak,
Paige Dawson,
Austin Ibale, and
Lindsey Lambert.
Athletes be a sophomore or older, and must be in at least their second year of competition at their school to be nominated for the All-Academic team.
On top of that, they must have a 3.20 or higher grade-point average. Those aforementioned players met the sophomore / second-year criteria– and all seven easily exceeded the minimum GPA. (The other 10 Falcons on the roster are either freshmen or redshirt freshmen, so will be eligible for consideration next season.)
Going 7-for-7, such as it were, clearly delighted head coach
Abbie Wright.
Wright
"I just really think their work ethic shows on and off the court," she said. "I'm really proud that they're embracing the mindset of working hard in all aspects of their life. … They really care about who they're gong to be when they leave here, and that's what we care about. I think the GPA is a product of those internal goals of being a great human being."
