SPU Tops GNAC with 19 Rowing Scholars

Falcons feature 14 repeat selections to all-academic team

PORTLAND, Ore. – A league-high nineteen Seattle Pacific student-athletes, including five nursing majors, were honored for their scholastic excellence when the 2021 women's rowing All-Academic Team that was announced Tuesday by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
 
SPU boasted more academic honorees than any other school. Western Washington was the runner-up with 10 selections.

Six Falcons featured lofty grade point averages above 3.75, led by the 3.93 of senior rower Suzanne Stafford. The biochemistry major from Clackamas (Oregon) High School had the third-loftiest GPA among conference competitors and the highest among upperclassmen.
 
A total of 25 student-athletes were honored by the GNAC for the second time and over half of those were from SPU. The list featured 14 Falcons as repeat selections.
 
This is the second season the GNAC has sponsored rowing.
 
The GNAC All-Academic Team recognizes excellence in the classroom while committing to the rigor of being part of a collegiate athletic program. Nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or greater and must be in their second season at the current institution.
 
The five student-athletes from SPU's renowned nursing program include Megan Chalfant (Roseville, Calif.), Kaitlin Dickinson (Monroe, Wash.), Jennifer Hoag (Normandy Park, Wash.), Macie Leach (Chico, Calif.) and Anna White (Meridian, Idaho).
 
Nine of the Falcons academic honorees are graduates of high schools in the state of Washington.
 
Ten student-athletes from the Falcons 30-person roster were not eligible due to their freshman, red-shirt freshman or transfer status.
 
A total of 41 student-athletes were named to the 2021 GNAC rowing Academic Team.
 
The Seattle Pacific rowing team returns to action on Saturday, May 1 at the Opening Day Regatta. Just one crew will compete for the Falcons, the varsity eight that rows at 8:52 a.m. on Seattle's Montlake Cut near the University of Washington.
