SPU Swept by Hot-Hitting Anchorage

Gould has 14 kills, but Seawolves find the floor all day to take down Falcons

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – From the Seattle Pacific point of view, it seemed as if every ball hit by the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves landed inbounds.

That's because almost every ball did.

UAA led from almost start to finish on Saturday afternoon, hitting at a high-flying .357 clip with just four attack errors all day, and swept past SPU in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match inside the Alaska Airlines Center, 3-0.

Scores were 25-20, 25-20, 25-12.

Anchorage (11-5, 4-0 GNAC) had 30 fewer attacks than did the Falcons, swinging just 84 times. But 34 of those found the floor, with just two errors in the first set, one in the second, and one in the third.

SPU (6-5, 2-2 GNAC) hit just .096 for the day (38 kills-27 errors-114 attacks). Of those 38 kills, senior outside hitter Erin Gould had a team-leading 14, coming within one of her career high, and hit .257.

The Seawolves scored the first three points of the match on the way to a 6-1 lead. They built it all the way up to 20-12 before Seattle Pacific ran off eight straight – the last seven of those with junior setter Lindsey Lambert serving – to tie the score at 20-20.

Alaska Anchorage responded with five in a row to close out the set.

UAA appeared ready to pull away in Set 2, going up 14-10. Once again, Lambert took over the serve, finishing off a 4-0 run to level it at 14-14. The Seawolves moved back ahead, but SPU was still within range at 21-19. That's when Anchorage put four of the last five on the board to take a two-set lead.

A four-point streak early in the third set gave UAA a 10-6 advantage. Then, up 17-12, it ran off the final eight points, with Nicole Blue serving up the last seven, to polish off the sweep
