Forster's Second Half Goal Leads to Draw with Saints

LACEY, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team traveled to Lacey for a match against Saint Martin's that was originally scheduled for last Thursday. The Falcons equalized it in the second half but couldn't score the goal they needed to win, settling for a 1-1 draw on Monday afternoon.

"We created some good chances today," head coach Arby Busey said. "Unfortunately, we could only find the back of the net once. Saint Martin's defense was stout today. It's another game, near the end of the regular season, where both teams are fighting hard for points. We would have loved to get all three points, but splitting them was a fair result. We'll get a couple more opportunities next weekend, to finish our regular season. We are excited about those and look forward to being on the field together again."

The Falcons attacked reputedly in the first half, outshooting their opponents 11-6 in the first 45 minutes. However, the Saints pushed one across in the 25th minute. Rachel Kimura scored her first goal of the season thanks to an assist from Rose Ivanis. The Saints held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

SPU continued to apply pressure on the Saints in the second half. They created five shots in the second half and had four corner kicks. The Falcons broke through in the 60th minute on a superb sequence.

Lauren Snedeker played a ball forward that landed at the feet of Sophie Beadle. Beadle worked against her defender down the right side of the field. The two battled inside the 18-yard box when the defender fell to the ground. Beadle crossed the ball on the ground as it got to Lauren Forster, who shot and scored. Forster's goal knotted the game at 1-1.

Shortly after in the 68th minute, Snedeker ripped a low skimmer toward the goal. The Saints keeper scooped up the shot to keep the score level. SPU couldn't get another shot off and settled for the draw.

Kaitlynn Knocke played the first half in goal for the Falcons. She was followed by Delaine Polly who played the final 45 minutes. Polly led the team with three saves.

The Falcons play their final road match of the season on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Ellensburg, Wash. when they play Central Washington.
