PORTLAND, Ore – A stellar performance at last weekend's GNAC/PacWest Challenge propelled Seattle Pacific's Shaw Anderson to repeat as Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Anderson has been sensational through the first two weeks of the 2022-23 basketball season. He finished the GNAC/PacWest Challenge with 49 points on 16-for-25 shooting, including a 5-for-7 performance from 3-point range, going 12-for-13 from the free throw line. Anderson added six rebounds and eight assists for an incredible weekend in Southern California.
"The most impressive thing we've seen from Shaw this season is his efficiency," head coach Grant Leep said. "He's getting the ball in positions he is very comfortable in and continues to make the right plays. Shaw made simple and quick decisions with the ball this weekend, with eight assists in addition to his scoring. He's a complete player. He's been getting to the free throw line more consistently through our first four games, which we challenged him to do. I'm excited to see how this team continues to grow, and Shaw is a big part of that."
Anderson led the Falcons in scoring in both games last weekend. He started with 19 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including perfect performances from 3-point range (3) and free throw line (6). Zack Paulsen followed closely with 17 points, while Ben Baker-McCann added 12 points and eight rebounds for SPU against APU.
After a slow start hurt the team on Friday, they bounced back by getting an early Jump on CUI on Saturday. The Falcons went on a 20-4 run over the first 6:07 of the game before going on to beat the Golden Eagles 79-70.
Anderson led the way, both in the quick start and for the game. He poured in 30 points, on 11-for-18 shooting from the field. Anderson added four rebounds and six assists to a stellar stat line.
On Saturday, Kelton Samore, Paulsen, and Baker-McCann joined Anderson in double-figure scoring. Samore went 5-for-9 from the field for 13 points with five rebounds.
Paulsen and Baker-McCann matched each other with 10 points each. Both players went 3-for-5 from the field with a 3-pointer. Paulsen grabbed four rebounds and matched Anderson with a game-high six assists.
The Falcons return to Royal Brougham Pavilion on Tuesday night when they host Douglas College at 7:30 p.m.
