Falcons Clash with Wolves Ends in 1-1 Draw

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team visited Western Oregon on Thursday afternoon in a contest that mirrored the first meeting between the Falcons and the Wolves, as both teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

The Falcons and Wolves played an even match. Both teams finished the match with nine shots. SPU had the edge in quality looks, getting six shots on goal compared to four from the Wolves.

"That is a tough point on the road," head coach Arby Busey said. "It's always a very competitive game between these two teams. They are fun games to be a part of. Great start to the second half for us. We had some very good moments today, just not enough to get a win. We will turn our attention to St. Martin's."

Chloe Gellhaus played 50 minutes for the Falcons and was a constant presence. She led the team with four shots, two of which were on goal. She made the most of an opportunity in the opening moments of the second half.

In the 46th minute, Jacqueline Blakeley crossed the ball into the box toward Gellhaus. The WOU keeper tried to smother the ball, but it popped out at the feet of Gellhaus. She quickly put the ball in the back of the net to put the Falcons up 1-0.

The Wolves answered in the 54th minute when they scored on a penalty kick. Lauren Snedeker had a shot on goal moments later that was saved. Taylor Krueger put one on frame in the 62nd minute that was scooped up by the keeper. Gellhaus had shots in the 81st and 82nd minute, but they didn't get through.

Mercedes Cullen was in goal for the Falcons. She played the full 90 minutes and had three saves.

The Falcons make the quick trip to Saint Martin's on Saturday for a match at 2 p.m.
