PORTLAND, Ore. – Hannah Hair keeps blocking … and the Seattle Pacific Falcons keep winning volleyball matches.

Hair got her hands on 14 total blocks last week, including five solos at Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, and has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

It is Hair's first such honor this year and the fourth time she has been selected for the weekly defensive award. She also has two Offensive Player of the Week awards from previous seasons.

Her efforts helped the Falcons win both of their matches last week, 3-1 at Fairbanks and 3-1 at Anchorage. It was the first time since 2012 that SPU went 2-0 on its annual Alaska road trip.

After recording four blocks assists at UAF, Hair had five block assists and a career high-tying five solos at UAA.

"Hannah was really dominant at the net. Whether she was up with someone else or not, she did a great job of making contact with a lot of balls," head coach Jason Rhine said. "We knew they were going to challenge that part of the defense, and I thought we responded well and got some good blocks throughout the match."

She now has 78 blocks for the season with 20 solos for a 1.59 per-set average. For the second week in a row, that average is No. 1 in all of NCAA Division II. With 389 total blocks for her career, Hair is up to No. 16 on the all-time GNAC list.

In addition, Hair is now up to No. 7 on the SPU all-time career list for total blocks. The 10 that she had on Saturday moved her past Lori Johnson, who recorded 380 from 1986-89. The next rung up the ladder is No. 6 Gaylene MacDonald, with 412 from 1987-88.

Earlier this fall, Sarah Brachvogel was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4, and the Falcons were the GNAC Team of the Week on Sept. 25.

Seattle Pacific (12-2, 6-0 GNAC) puts its 11-match winning streak on the line on Thursday when Western Washington comes to Brougham Pavilion. First serve is at 7:00 p.m.
