PORTLAND, Ore. – Is it a repeat or a three-peat?

In Hannah Hair's case, it's both.

The Seattle Pacific senior, who had 19 blocks in two matches combined last week, has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

Hannah Hair
This is the second week in a row and the third time this season that the 6-foot-1 middle blocker has won the award. She now has six weekly defensive awards, plus two on the offensive side, for her career.

During last Thursday's 3-1 victory against Alaska Anchorage in Brougham Pavilion, Hair had 10 blocks, four of them solo. She followed up with nine more in Saturday's 3-1 victory against Alaska Fairbanks.

With her 19 total blocks – that coming on the heels of a 20-block week in victories at Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 19 and 21 – Hair is up to 442 for her career. That puts her in sole possession of No. 3 on the SPU all-time list. She is 13 away from No. 2 Anina Winters, who had 455 from 1988-89.

Hair is No. 7 on the GNAC career list. The next run up that ladder is No. 6 Vera Pluharova, who had 448 for Alaska Anchorage from 2017-21.

For the season, Hair has 131 total blocks (33 solo), well beyond her previous season best of 115 in 2021. She continues to lead NCAA Division II in blocks per set at 1.73, with No. 2 Lauren Valentic of Indiana (Pennsylvania) at 1.45. Valentic is No. 1 in total blocks with 142, with Hair's 131 putting her No. 2.

It wasn't just defense where Hair came up big last week. She had 17 kills in the two matches combined, with 11 of those against Fairbanks, and hit .484 for the week (17 kills-2 errors-31 attacks).

The Falcons (18-3, 12-1 GNAC) are on the road this week, visiting Simon Fraser in Burnaby, B.C., on Thursday, and Western Washington in Bellingham on Saturday. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m.
