PORTLAND, Ore. - The Great Northwest Athletic Conference named Seattle Pacific men's basketball standout Shaw Anderson its Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Shaw Anderson played 115 minutes over three games during Thanksgiving week. He scored 62 points for an average of 20.6 points per game. The Kelso Native shot 23-for-26 from the field with 16 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks, and a steal to his week's totals.
"Shaw was big for us this past week," Interim head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "We ask a lot of him already, and due to some injuries early on, we have asked him to take on a larger role, and he does not hesitate."
Anderson's biggest game of the week came last Tuesday against Sonoma State. The Falcons hung on for an 82-78 victory over the Seawolves. Anderson poured in 29 points on an efficient 11-for-18 shooting. He didn't attempt a 3-pointer in the game but went 7-for-8 from the free throw line. He pulled down seven boards and dished out a pair of assists.
Anderson continued to climb the all-time scoring leaderboard. He passed Divant'e Moffitt (2017-2022) for eighth all-time in program history on Tuesday. Anderson's career total sits at 1,494 points. He's 16 points away from Harry Cavell's 1,510 career mark that sits seventh all-time. Howard Heppner (1962-1966) is in sixth all-time with 1,521, while Jim Ballard (1970-1973) is in fifth with 1,530 points.
"What makes Shaw great is that he is the ultimate teammate," Fazio added. "He has been nicknamed the unselfish bucket in our program. His teammates would be the first to tell you how great of a person he is on top of what he can do on the court. We're just lucky we get to be here, during this time, while he passes through SPU."
The Falcons return to Seattle for the start of a five-game home stand that lasts from Nov. 30 to Dec. 19. SPU hosts Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as they open GNAC play.
