Mora Breaks Out with Career Night at Canadian Tip-Off Classic

LANGLEY, B.C. – Day two of the Canadian Tip-Off Classic featured the Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team taking on Hawaii Hilo where Julian Mora had career-bests in points, rebounds, and assists, but the Falcons fell to the Vulcans.

"I think we're trying to find how we all mesh together on the court," Interim head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "We had the chance to give a few more opportunities. Julian stepped up and had a nice game. We're excited to see that from him."

The Falcons and Vulcans traded baskets throughout the first nine minutes of the game. Shaw Anderson led the group with eight points as the Falcons led 15-13 with 11:19 to play. The SPU offense went on an extended cold streak to close out the first half. The Vulcans used a 25-5 run to create separation.

Julian Mora provided a spark for the Falcons in the second half. The team trailed 42-23 when the Falcons broke out a 16-6 run that lasted 4:44. Mora carried the load, scoring eight points in that span. Kyle Luttinen shot it well during that stretch with five points. SPU cut the deficit to 48-36 with 14:13 left in the game. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Vulcans maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the second half.

Mora led the team with a career-high 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting, including four made 3-pointers. He added four rebounds and three assists, both career-bests. Jadin Penigar also poured in a career-high with 11 points. He was perfect from the free throw line and grabbed seven boards.

"Right now, the goal is to play 40 minutes," Fazio added. "We've shown that we have the talent and the ability to play well. We must be consistent in our execution, and playing hard the whole game has to become our standard."

The Falcons wrap up their time in Canada on the final day of the Canadian Tip-Off Classic tomorrow afternoon. SPU takes on Daemen at 12:45 p.m.
