Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Persistent Falcons held at Bay against Wildcats

CHICO, Calif. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team finished their Northern California road swing with a match against Chico State on Saturday night. Despite being on the attack offensively throughout the match, the Falcons fell 1-0 to the Wildcats.

The Falcons did all they could to find the back of the net on Saturday. They were credited with 21 shots, as nine came in the first half before 12 more in the second. Five of those shots were on frame. The Falcons created chances with five corner kicks. Somehow, the Falcons couldn't find a way to score against the Wildcats.

"That is as good as we have played here in recent memory," head coach Arby Busey said. "We were great tonight and give Chico credit for their effort. We were very dangerous, and didn't concede much defensively. One Free Kick made the difference tonight, they found the back of the net early and made that goal stand up. I loved the team I coached tonight. They are capable of big things. I'm excited about going forward with this group."

Jacqueline Blakeley tried to answer the 10th-minute goal that put the Wildcats up 1-0 in the 13th minute. The shot came in low and in the middle and was scooped up by Chico's keeper. In the 21st minute, Chloe Gellhaus had another try that was rejected.

More chances came in the second half. Blakeley went for the tie in the 60th minute. She sent it in low and to the left, but it was stopped. Taylor Krueger gave it a rip in the 69th minute but had a low shot that was saved.

SPU tried desperately to tie the game in the final 10 minutes of the match, sending in six total shots during that span. Gellhaus had another saved in the 83rd minute. The Falcon's best late chance came off the foot of Maya Parman. Her shot went toward the upper left corner before the Wildcat keeper got to it.

Next up for the Falcons is a match against Colorado School of Mines one week from today. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. PST.
