Falcons Lead Wire-to-Wire in 20-point Win over Red Leafs

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team returned to Royal Brougham Pavilion to host Simon Fraser on Thursday evening in a game that the Falcons never trailed and went to earn an 83-63 victory over the Red Leafs.

"We're proud of the way the team has been fighting and competing," interim head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "Today was a game in which the fruits of our labor paid off. We played hard, we made shots, and got rewarded for it. That doesn't always happen, but it was great to see it happen tonight."

The Falcons enjoyed a balanced offensive attack against the Red Leafs. The team went 30-for-60 (50 percent) from the field and accrued 19 assists. SPU splashed home 14 3-pointers against SFU.

The Falcons asserted themselves against the Red Leafs from tip-off to the final buzzer. SPU opened the game with a 15-4 run that lasted 6:38. Shaw Anderson led the team with 10 points during the run, while the defense held SFU to a 2-for-9 performance to start the game.

The Falcons kept the Red Leafs at arm's length throughout the game. SPU led for 38:58 of the 40-minute game. Their largest lead ballooned to 27 points near the end of the game.

"This team has played well at home all season long," Fazio added. "There's familiarity, there's confidence in shooting, and our fans help us tremendously. We executed well."

Owen Moriarty led the way for the Falcons with 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting with four made 3-pointers. Shaw Anderson followed closely with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting. The Kelso Native was a rebound away from a double-double, finishing with nine.

Trace Evans and Maui Sze finished in double-figures for the Falcons as well. Evans scored 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting, with four rebounds and four assists. Sze went 4-for-6 with three made 3-pointers en route to 12 points. He led the team with six assists.

"When we stay disciplined to executing, our guys are learning that the ball ends up where it should," Fazio added. "It's an area we've grown in throughout the season. That kind of stuff takes time. We're starting to see some consistency in that area and it's exciting. Owen had a great night on both ends of the floor. We're happy to see him have a night like tonight."

The Falcons are home on Saturday for a game against Western Washington. Tip-off is slated for 4:15 p.m.
