Falcons Decimate Wolves in 91-56 Road Victory

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team traveled to Western Oregon for a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game on Thursday night. The Falcons left no doubt, opening the game with a 21-0 run on their way to an emphatic 91-56 road victory.

"We wanted to rise to the challenge of getting our first true road win," interim head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "We talked about it all week. I'm proud of our team for that response. I'm especially proud of the progress our team has made over the past two months. We are working hard, and our team is playing hard for each other. It's been fun to watch them grow and earn the success they've had so far."

The Falcons offense was phenomenal in the opening minutes against the Wolves. SPU erupted for a 21-0 run over the first six minutes. Jadin Penigar highlighted the run when he drove down the lane and threw down a monster dunk. The Falcons went 8-for-9, including three 3-pointers during the stretch.

The SPU defense was excellent as well. They hold the Wolves to a 0-for-6 performance over the first six minutes. That led to a 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) effort from the field in the first half. The Falcons forced the Wolves into nine turnovers in the first half and had five steals.

The Falcon's offensive performance mirrored itself in the second half. They'd go on to finish the game 66.1 percent (37-for-56) from the field. The team dished out 24 assists, the most against any NCAA Division II opponent. Owen Moriarty led the group with five assists. Defensively, the Falcons held the Wolves to just 17 made field goals for the game.

Shaw Anderson continued to make history for the Falcons. With his eighth point against the Wolves, Anderson scored his 1,700th career point. He became just the fourth player in SPU men's basketball history to reach the total. David Downs (2011-14), Dustin Bremerman (2003-07), and Loren Anderson (1955-58) are the only other Falcons to score 1,700 points or more in program history. Anderson finished with 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting with four assists.

Penigar led everyone with 24 points on 11-for-17 shooting. He went 2-for-3 from 3-point range. He added two rebounds, two assists, and one block to a stellar night for the Falcons. Moriarty scored 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Jonas La Tour led the bench with 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting.

The Falcons face their toughest test of the season on Saturday when they visit #3 Saint Martin's in Lacey, Wash. at 5:15 p.m. inside Marcus Pavilion.
