Falcons Draw Even with Saints

LACEY, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team outshot Saint Martin's 18-4 in Thursday's Great Northwest Athletic Conference match, but the Falcons could not push one through and left Lacey with a 0-0 tie with the Saints.

"Tough one today, but credit to Saint Martin's effort," head coach Arby Busey said. "We had a similar pattern to last week, where it took us a bit to get going. Last week, we were able to get goals but today we didn't get it done. We were around the goal quite a bit in the second half but just couldn't get one across the line today."

The Falcons were relentless in their offensive attack on Thursday against the Saints. SPU sent eight shots in the first half, followed by 10 more in the second half. Eight shots were on frame, but Saint Martin's keeper Flavia Burrell saved each of them.

The Falcons created nine chances from corner kicks. Lauren Snedeker and Kathryn Nyone led the Falcons with two quality looks on goal each. Kayla Wallace, Taylor Krueger, Nora Patterson, and Jen Merri had shots on goal as well.

Mercedes Cullen returned to goal for the Falcons on Thursday. Kailalni Ahuna, Snedeker, Nyone, Landrey McCann, and Ella Smith provided firm defense and allowed just four shots from the Saints. SMU put two shots on goal that were saved by Cullen. Cullen picked up her first shutout of the season against the Saints.

"We'll regroup, and recharge tomorrow and attack the opportunity together on Saturday morning," Busey added.

The Falcons are on the road again on Saturday when they play Western Oregon in a rare 10 a.m. start in Monmouth, Ore.
