SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team picked up its seventh win of the 2024 season with a 3-1 victory over Montana State University Billings on Saturday powered by two goals from
Ashlyn Valdovinos.
"We got a great result today," head coach
Arby Busey said. "MSUB has been playing well, and we found that out early on. We struggled to get going. Fortunately, we grew as the game went on, and we secured a result in the second half. Results are what we are trying to achieve so we'll take this one and look forward to the opportunities we have next week."
Valdovinos got the scoring started in the 29th minute of Saturday's match.
Taylor Krueger worked past her defender down the right sideline before angling into the box. Krueger's cross went through the box, where it found Valdovinos on the backside. She ripped a shot into the top left corner of the net to put the Falcons up 1-0.
The Yellowjackets tied the match in the 34th minute. Ave Roberts scored it for the visitors. The goal tied the game 1-1, and the score stayed that way into halftime.
SPU benefited from a little bit of luck on Saturday. MSUB committed a foul that created a free kick from a dangerous spot on the field. Valdovinos crossed the ball into the box, where a deflection from an MSUB defender wound up in the back of the net. The own goal gave SPU a 2-1 lead.
Krueger and Valdovinos teamed up for the final goal of the match. Krueger once again worked down the right side of the field before crossing a ball into the box. Valdovions was waiting for it and chipped it up and over the defender for the goal. It pushed the score to 3-1, where it would be until time expired.
Valdovinos scored her first career goal for the Falcons on Saturday. She joined
Nora Patterson and
Maya Parman as first-time goal scorers for the Falcons in 2024.
The Falcons are back at home next weekend. They'll host Western Oregon on Thursday before celebrating their seniors against Saint Martin's on Saturday.
