Falcons Blank Wildcats, Complete the Weekend Sweep

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team collected another Great Northwest Athletic Conference win on Saturday when Nora Patterson and Andie Buckley scored goals assisted by Taylor Krueger as the Falcons beat Central Washington 2-0.

"We played two very similar games this weekend, where it was a challenge for us to find ourselves," head coach Arby Busey said. "Once we did, we looked good in moments going forward together and created some good chances and had some really good stuff going on in the second half tonight, for sure."

Coming into Saturday's match, Krueger scored in three consecutive matches for the Falcons. The streak ended against Central Washington, but the 2023 GNAC Newcomer of the Year and All-Conference Honorable Mention found ways to leave an instrumental impact against the Wildcats.

Like Thursday's 2-1 win over Northwest Nazarene, the Falcons found their offense in the second half. In the 75th minute, Krueger snuck a pass through defenders to Nora Patterson. Patterson finished from 10 yards out from the left side. It was her first career goal for the Falcons and went on to be the game-winner.

It didn't take long for the Falcons to add to their lead. Krueger created another chance, this time for Andie Buckley. Buckley ripped a screamer from 14 yards out that gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Like Patterson, it was Buckley's first goal of 2024.

Landry Schoennauer made her second-consecutive start in goal. She picked up her first shutout of 2024. Defensive support from Nathryn Nyone, Landrey McCann, and Ella Smith held the Wildcats to just four shots throughout the match. Schoennauer made two saves on the night.

"We started to assert ourselves defensively a little bit higher up the field, which kept the ball farther from our goal," Busey said. "Landry made the saves that she needed to make. Our back line made the plays that they needed to make in the second half, and just kept them from getting anything that posed a real serious threat to us in that second half."

The Falcons make the quick trip to Lacey, Wash. to play Saint Martin's on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.
