SEATTLE – It was another balanced scoring effort from the Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team on Saturday when they hosted Douglas College, as Jaxon Nap led the way with 22 points and was one of seven Falcons that scored in double-figures in the team's 107-57 victory over the Royals.
The Falcons got off to another quick start against the Royals on Saturday. SPU opened the first four with a 15-2 run. The Falcons went 6-for-8 from the field, including a 3-for-4 effort from 4-point range. Nap led the early onslaught with eight points.
With just under 15 minutes left in the first half, the Falcons went on another run. This time, it was 14-2 in favor of the Falcons and lasted 2:49. Jonas La Tour and Nap scored five points each. After the burst of offense, the Falcons led 31-9 with 11:39 left in the opening half.
SPU stepped on the gas one more time in the first half. The Falcons outscored the Royals 26-8 over eight minutes. The scoring was balanced, as seven Falcons scored during that span. Henry Sandberg and Mason Landdeck led the spurt with five points each.
The Falcons entered Saturday's game averaging 13.1 assists per game. They accrued 14 in the first half. They'd go on to finish with 25 for the game. The Falcons set a season-best last Wednesday against Evergreen State with 27 assists. They've dished out 52 assists in two games this week.
"We're at our best when our goal is to find each other," head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "I thought we did that well this week."
Nap was sensational for the Falcons in the first half. He scored 17 points on an ultra-efficient 7-for-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Nap led the game in rebounding in the first half, with seven. He finished the game with his third double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Trace Evans joined Nap with a double-double of his own. Evans scored 15 points, had 10 rebounds, and added three assists.
Sandberg was the second-leading scorer for the Falcons. He set a career-high in scoring last Wednesday with 14 points against Evergreen State. He'd beat it by a basket on Saturday, scoring 16 points against the Royals while setting a new career-high in scoring.
Logan Kinloch set a new career-high in scoring as well. Like Sandberg, Kinloch had set his career mark on Wednesday. Kinloch had 12 points against the Royals, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out two assists.
La Tour scored 13 points for SPU. He made six shots, highlighted by two dunks, one in each half. Landdeck and Julian Mora scored 11 points each. Mora led the team in assists with six.
"We've played one of the toughest schedules in the region thus far and learned a lot," Fazio said. "We'll look to use that experience when we return from break."
The Falcons will take a break for the holidays and return to Great Northwest Conference play in January. They'll hit the road for a game against Saint Martin's on January 2nd at 7:30 p.m.
