BURNABY, B.C. – The Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team traveled north of the border for a game against Simon Fraser on Saturday night where a frustrating offensive performance hurt the Falcons and gave the game to the Red Leafs.
"I thought we came out a little flat," interim head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "When you do that on someone else's home court it usually costs you. We lacked energy on defense. We know winning on the road in this league is hard. Tonight was a good reminder about that."
Throughout the 2023-24 season, the Falcons have been one of the best shooting teams in the conference. SPU didn't find its usual offensive rhythm against the SFU on Saturday night. The team finished the game with a 44.8 percent (26-for-58) performance from the field. They made just eight 3-point shots, with four coming in each half.
The Falcons also struggled with their limited opportunities from the free throw line. SPU made three free throws and had just six attempts against the Red Leafs.
Despite the team's struggles, Shaw Anderson turned in another strong performance. He finished with a game-high 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting. He made two 3-pointers and sank both of his free throw attempts. Anderson added five rebounds and two assists.
Trace Evans played well for SPU. He scored 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting with five rebounds and a team-high four assists. Anderson and Evans were the only Falcons to score in double-figures.
SPU returns to Royal Brougham Pavilion on Thursday, Feb. 15 to host #13 Saint Martin's at 7 p.m.
