Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons Flattened by Vulcans Eruption

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team stumbled in its home opener when they were flattened by the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans eruption of four goals and a shutout of the Falcons.

A slow start from the Falcons was met by constant waves of offensive attack from the Vulcans. Hilo's Teani Arakawa was a part of all four goals for the Vulcans on Thursday. She scored in the 19th, 21st, and 52nd minutes of the match. She assisted on Alyssa Pardon's goal that happened in the 2nd minute.

"Give Hilo a great deal of credit for showing up to a big game and turning in that kind of a performance," head coach Arby Busey said. "They were fantastic in every way and overwhelmed us right from the start. All the credit in the world to them and how they played today."

Taylor Krueger found ways to create offense for the Falcons. She took three shots in 43 minutes on Thursday. Kayla Wallace, Ashlyn Valdovinos, and Maya Parman were the only other Falcons to have a try.

Mercedes Cullen was busy in goal for the Falcons. She faced 18 shots, nine of which were on goal. She made five saves for SPU.

The Falcons are back at Interbay Soccer Stadium on Saturday morning when they host Chico State at 11:30 a.m.

"It's one where you can't wait for Saturday; it can't come soon enough," Busey added. "It's a chance to move on from this one. Last weekend, we got great results because we earned them. Today was no different. We were not at our best and were taken advantage of. We have a chance to think about some things and develop a better performance on Saturday, and I believe this group will respond."
