Falcons Dominate Vikings 4-1

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team scored two goals in each half against Western Washington on Saturday night, throttling the Vikings 4-1 in a crucial Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.

FROM THE COACH
"Really proud of the team tonight," head coach Kevin Sakuda said. "We were fantastic from the jump and put in a really complete performance for 90 minutes.  Couldn't be happier for the guys."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons got on the board in a hurry against the Vikings, when Diego Pena-Salgado ripped a low line drive through multiple defenders to put the Falcons up 1-0 in the 2nd minute of the match.
  • Then, in the 19th minute, Lukas Shriner played a long ball down the middle of the field to a wide-open Orlando Erazo, who punched the ball into the lower left corner to put the Falcons up 2-0.
  • In the 61st minute, Sebastian Rangel launched a bender from 23 yards away that snuck inside the right post to put the Falcons up 3-0.
  • SPU added to their lead again in the 69th minute when Owen Swartout sent a ball into the box that was tapped in by a WWU defender, giving the Falcons a 4-0 lead.
  • WWU's Zack Robertson scored a goal in the 72nd minute to shrink the SPU lead to three.
  • The Falcons held on for the final 18 minutes of the match to take it, 4-1.
     
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Pena-Salgado, Erazo, and Rangel tied for a game-high one goal against the Vikings.
  • Erazo led the Falcons with three shots, two of which were on goal.
  • Brian Lanier got the start in goal for the Falcons, playing 90 minutes, facing 11 shots and making three saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Pena-Salgado scored his first goal of the season, and fourth of his career at SPU.
  • Erazo has scored in three consecutive games for the Falcons and has five goals this season for SPU.
    • Erazo has been credited with the game-winning goal in each of the last three matches.
  • Rangel scored his first career goal for the Falcons against the Vikings.
UP NEXT
The Falcons host two home matches next weekend, starting with a bout against Western Oregon on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a senior day celebration against Saint Martin's on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6:00 p.m.
