Seniors Lead the way on their Day

SEATTLE – Seniors led the way for the Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team during their day, as Kayla Wallace scored for the fifth straight game thanks to an assist from Maya Parman, and Mercedes Cullen picked up a shutout in the Falcons' 1-0 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon.

"Fun day today," head coach Arby Busey said. "Lots of emotion! Great for our seniors to feel the love from their teammates. And we leaned into their leadership to see it cross the line. Fun for them to create and finish the goal, and help with the shutout!! It is a phenomenal group of women, and I'm so happy we got them a win today."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons applied pressure on the Nighthawks early, blasting seven shots over the first 45 minutes of the match.
  • Still, the Falcons and Nighthawks were tied 0-0 at halftime.
  • In the 64th minute, Kayla Wallace got the Falcons on the board thanks to an assist from Maya Parman.
    • Wallace's goal was a rocket from 14 yards out into the upper right corner of the net.
  • The Falcons held on for the final 35 minutes of the match to secure a 1-0 victory over the Nighthawks on senior day.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • The Falcons had 16 shots compared to nine from the Nighthawks.
    • SPU had seven shots on goal compared to three from NNU.
  • Wallace scored the only goal of the match.
    • Wallace also had a game-high seven shots, three of which were on goal.
  • Parman had the only assist of the match.
  • Mercedes Cullen made the start and played 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons, making three saves while shutting out the Nighthawks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE UP NEXT
The Falcons have four more regular-season matches, all of which take place on the road over the next two weeks. SPU travels to Western Washington to play the Vikings on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a match at Simon Fraser on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 5:00 p.m.
