Falcons Spooked by Early Goals from Vikings

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team traveled to Bellingham, Wash., to take on 12th-ranked Western Washington on Thursday night, as the Falcons couldn't overcome two early goals from the Vikings, falling 2-0.

FROM THE COACH
"They jumped on us quickly tonight," head coach Arby Busey said. "Got ourselves in a hole we couldn't get out of. Grew a bit as the game went on, but we weren't able to string enough good moments together to claw our way back into the game. We'll turn our attention to Saturday and work for a better result."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons fell behind in the 7th minute of the match when Claire Potter tapped it in with her head off passes from Emily Rice and Olivia Connell.
  • Potter wasn't finished, adding another goal to the WWU lead in the 18th minute of the match.
    • Emily Holdridge was credited with an assist on Potter's strong finish.
  • Taylor Krueger tried to chip into the WWU lead in the 43rd minute with a shot toward the lower right corner of the net, but it was saved.
  • Krueger had another shot on goal in the 66th minute, but it was saved.
  • Kylie Hendry and Grace Gouran had back-to-back shots in the 82nd minute, with Hendry's being blocked and Gouran's missing high.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Krueger led the Falcons with three shots, two of which were on goal.
  • Landry Schoennauer played the second half in goal for the Falcons, making five saves in 45 minutes between the posts.
BEYOND THE BOX
  • Kayla Wallace's streak of scoring at least one goal came to an end at five on Thursday night.
