Falcons Fall to Vikings at Home

SEATTLE – 18th-ranked Seattle Pacific University hosted RV Western Washington on Saturday night at Interbay Soccer Stadium, where three goals in the first half from the Vikings were too much to overcome for the Falcons, as they fell 3-0.

FROM THE COACH
"It was a tough one tonight," head coach Arby Busey said. "We got overwhelmed and put into a deep hole early on. We had some moments in the second half, but couldn't string enough of them together. When we did, their goalkeeper came up huge. We'll use Sunday to recover and get back on track, and we'll get right back to work on Monday. I have a ton of confidence in this group's ability to respond to challenges."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kayla Wallace nearly got the Falcons on the board in the fifth minute, but her low line-drive shot was scooped up by the Vikings' keeper.
  • In the 17th minute, Morgan Manalili scored for the Vikings with an assist from Emily Holdridge to put the visitors up 1-0.
  • In the 33rd minute, SPU committed a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick for WWU.
  • Manalili stepped up to take and make the penalty kick for the Vikings, giving them a 2-0 lead.
  • In the 38th minute, Mie Cairns scored off an assist from Emily Rice to put WWU up 3-0.
  • In the second half, Grace Gouran had back-to-back looks for the Falcons that were off target.
  • Wallace had another shot on goal in the 73rd minute that was collected by the WWU keeper.
  • Nora Patterson had two shots on goal in the final six minutes that were handled by the Vikings' keeper.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Wallace led the Falcons with three shots on goal.
  • Maya Parman and Taylor Krueger had a shot on goal each.
  • Landry Schoennauer spent the second half in goal for the Falcons and did not allow a goal in 45 minutes of play.
