Rubino's Career Night Leads Falcons to Victory

NEWBERG, Ore. – Three members of the Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team scored in double figures on Wednesday night against George Fox, as Madison Rubino set a new career high with 19 points, leading the Falcons to a 69-50 victory over the Bruins.

"We want to be a team first team and we played that way tonight," head coach Karen Byers said. "We celebrated each other and you can see that in how we played. Mertes had a break out game and I'm proud that she shot her shot. Rubino was strong in the key and really pulled down some boards when we needed them."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons closed out the final three minutes of the first quarter with a 12-5 run against the Bruins.
    • Grace Mertes splashed home two 3-pointers during that stretch.
  • The Falcons maintained their momentum through the second quarter, outscoring the Bruins 22-10.
    • The Falcons went 7-for-10 during that span, including three made 3-pointers.
    • Grace Turley led the Falcons with nine points during the second quarter.
  • SPU owned a 42-27 lead at halftime.
  • The Falcons went on a 9-4 run to close out the last three minutes of the third quarter.
