Sandberg & McMillan Lead Falcons to Victory over Gators

SAN FRANCISCO – Henry Sandberg set career highs in points and rebounds, while Theo McMillan rerecorded his first double-double for the Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team against San Francisco State on Sunday, leading the Falcons to a 70-68 victory over the Gators.

"Just really proud of our group and their response today," head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "A tough loss the night before, less than a 24-hour turnaround, and another tough road game. To come away with the split was big for us. Henry certainly played well and made some huge plays to secure the victory. He has been battling a stomach bug all weekend, so he really stepped up."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons and Gators played a tight game early on, before SPU went on a 17-6 run over the final 6:40 of the first half.
    • The Falcons went 6-for-10 from the field and hit a pair of 3-pointers during that stretch.
    • Theo McMillan was excellent for the Falcons, scoring eight points during the run.
  • The explosive conclusion to the first half gave the Falcons a 44-36 lead at the halftime break.
  • The Gators got back into the game with a pair of second half runs.
    • The first was an 11-3 five-minute stretch that pulled them to within four points of the Falcons with 10:45 remaining.
    • The second was a nearly 8-minute stretch where SFS outscored SPU 18-7, with the final basket giving the Gators a two-point lead with 57 seconds left to play.
  • Sandberg knocked down a jumper with 43 seconds to tie the game, before a defensive stop led to a pair of game-winning free throws from Sandberg.
    • Sandberg scored nine consecutive points for the Falcons in the final 4:14 of the game for the Falcons.
  • The Falcons won the game 70-68.

  • The Falcons finished the game shooting 46.3 percent (25-for-54) from the field and went 11-for-24 (45.8 percent) from 3-point range.
  • Sandberg led the Falcons with 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
  • Sandberg also got it done on the glass, pulling down four offensive rebounds and five defensive rebounds for nine for the game.
    • 16 of the Falcons' 41 rebounds were offensive, leading to 12 second-chance points for SPU.
  • McMillan finished the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds, collecting a double-double for the Falcons.
  • Julian Mora knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to scoring 11 points for the Falcons.
  • Grant Coleman had nine points and nine rebounds for SPU on Sunday.
  • The Falcons got a boost from their bench on Sunday, as the reserves chipped in 20 points.

  • Sandberg set new career highs in points (20) and rebounds (9) for the Falcons on Sunday.
  • McMillan recorded his first career double-double for the Falcons with 10 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday.
