SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team squared off against Western Washington in a rare Friday night Great Northwest Athletic Conference match up, where a late push from the Vikings was too much for the Falcons to overcome.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Layne Kearns scored four of the Falcons' first six points.
- She tied the game 6-6 with a layup midway through the first quarter.
- WWU had a three-minute 8-2 run to give themselves a 14-8 lead with a minute left in the first quarter.
- Kearns and Madison Rubino hit back-to-back layups in the final 40 seconds of the first quarter to cut the Vikings' lead to two.
- Rubino opened the second quarter with another layup, tying the game 14-14.
- The Vikings went on a 9-0 run to go up 23-14 midway through the second quarter.
- Kearns went off in the final five minutes of the first half, scoring 10 points for the Falcons.
- SPU trailed WWU 33-26 at halftime.
- The Vikings knocked down five 3-pointers as part of a 24-9 fourth-quarter run that helped them take the game 67-43.
