Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons Collect 1-0 Victory over Pioneers

SEATTLE – Maya Parman scored her first goal of the season, while goalkeepers Mercedes Cullen and Landry Schoennauer teamed up to earn the shutout for the 20th ranked Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team in its 1-0 victory over Cal State East Bay on Thursday evening.

FROM THE COACH
"Challenging game tonight," head coach Arby Busey said. "We had to dig really deep to get it done. Our women stayed with it and fought their way to a big win. Cal State East Bay made it really hard on us all night, and it took a massive effort to keep them off the board. Our goalkeepers were great at organizing their team in front of them and came through on saves when needed. It's awesome for Maya [Parman] to be rewarded with a goal tonight. She has been fantastic for us so far. She's a phenomenal person and a great leader, and she guided us to victory."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercedes Cullen made a save in the 11th minute of the match to keep the game tied 0-0 in the early stages.
  • Kayla Wallace came close to giving the Falcons the lead in the 26th minute, but her shot was saved by the Pioneer keeper.
  • In the 80th minute, Grace Gouran sent a ball into the box that Parman sent toward the net, but the ball was knocked down by the keeper.
  • With the ball on the turf in front of the goal, Parman tapped it in from one yard out, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the match.
  • The Pioneers had one last attempt to tie the game in the 90th minute, but Schoennauer scooped up the shot to secure the game for the Falcons.
