McMillan's Double-Double Doused by Last-Second Shot from Wolves

SEATTLE – Theo McMillan recorded his second double-double of the season with a career-high 12 rebounds for the Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team on Thursday night, but a last-second shot from Western Oregon won it for the Wolves, 50-49.

"We didn't play well," head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "Credit WOU, however, I thought they played hard. We just didn't have our best game with us, and on the road that's a bad spot to be."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons gained an early edge over the Wolves with an 11-6 run over the first 7:30 of the game.
  • The Falcons led by three points with 10:52 left in the first half, when a layup from Trace Evans started an 11-3 run.
    • The Falcons went 5-for-8 from the field during the five-minute run.
    • Aengus Sutherland led with four points during that stretch to help the Falcons go up 24-13 with 5:37 left in the first half.
  • The Wolves answered with an 11-3 to close out the first half.
  • SPU owned a 27-23 lead at halftime.
  • WOU outscored the Falcons 14-5 to open the second half, giving themselves a 37-32 lead with 11:42 left in the game.
  • The Falcons trailed by five points when they fought their way back into the game with a 14-5 run to up 46-44 with just under two minutes left to play.
    • The Falcons went 5-for-7 from the field during that stretch.
    • Julian Mora was fouled and hit three free throws, and splashed home the 3-pointer that gave the Falcons a late lead.
  • The Falcons turned it over with 45 seconds left, leading to a dunk from WOU's Peter-Kaci Gwananji that gave his team a two-point lead.
  • McMillan found Grant Coleman on the wing for a deep 3-pointer with 21 seconds left that gave the Falcons a 49-48 lead.
  • With time running out, former Falcon Jadin Penigar hit a 15-footer on the left baseline that proved to be the game-winning shot.
  • The Wolves took the game 50-49.

  • The Falcons finished the game shooting 46.5 percent (20-for-43) from the field with five made 3-pointers.
  • SPU turned the ball over 14 times, leading to 11 points off turnovers for WOU.
  • McMillan and Coleman tied with a team-high 10 points each for the Falcons.
