ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University women's volleyball team's five-match winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon against 21
st-ranked Central Washington, where the Falcons and Wildcats played a record-tying second set before the Falcons fell 3-0 (25-21, 39-37, 25-13).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats took the opening set 25-21, out-hitting the Falcons .154 to .000.
- The Falcons battled through an extended second set before Wildcats pulled it out 39-37.
- SPU tied it at 24-24, kicking off a stretch of 13 straight ties or lead changes before CWU scored the final two points to win it 39-37.
- The Wildcats opened set three with back-to-back runs to build an 18-6 lead.
- The Falcons' best push, a four-point run, only closed the gap to 18-10 before Central Washington closed out the match 25-13.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Megan Omlid led the Falcons with 11 kills and four of the team's seven service aces.
- Maiya Lester added 10 kills, while Audra Rose chipped in seven kills and a team-high four block assists.
- Amaya Evans led the Falcons defensively at the net with five total blocks.
- Peyton Ensign ran the offense with 29 assists and added a team-high 10 digs.
- Christina Lopez added nine digs for the Falcons.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's second set score was tied for third-highest in GNAC history and was the second-highest in a conference match.
- It was the highest set score since the 2015 season and the highest by both CWU and SPU since they joined the GNAC as founding members in 2001
- The all-time GNAC record belongs to Saint Martin's and Western Oregon, with the Saints winning the first set of their match against the Wolves 42-40.
- Today's second set between the Falcons and Wildcats is tied for the highest score in the rally scoring era (since 2008).
- Simon Fraser and Hawaii Pacific played to the same score in the first set of their match on Sept. 10, 2015.
