SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team honored
Madison Rubino before the home finale against Alaska Anchorage on Saturday afternoon, as the Seawolves pulled away from the Falcons to take the game 91-52.

"Madison set a great example of how to work, how to compete, and how to be an advocate for others," head coach
Karen Byers said. "She would hold us all to the standard that was set and remind us if we were slipping. She taught us how to practice diligently and compete effectively. We are a stronger team when she is on the court. We will miss her out there, but remember her as a teammate forever."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a slow start for the Falcons, as they didn't score for the first six minutes of the game, allowing the Seawolves to gain a 7-0 lead.
- The SPU offense got going late in the first quarter, powered by five points from Cascadia Yates.
- Even with the slow start, the Falcons trailed 16-11 at the end of the first 10 minutes of the game.
- The Falcons used an 8-4 run in the first three minutes of the second quarter to pull to within three points of the Seawolves.
- SPU went 3-for-3 during the run, as Grace Mertes led the way with five points.
- With six minutes left in the first half, the Seawolves went on a 21-3 run over the Falcons.
- SPU struggled offensively during that span, going 1-for-7 from the field with six turnovers.
- The Seawolves owned a 46-24 lead at halftime.
- UAA extended its lead in the third quarter before taking the game 91-52.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- It was another outstanding game for Grace Leasure, who finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals.
- Haylie-Anne Ohta and Leasure tied for a team-high two assists each.
- Mertes knocked down a pair of 3-pointers on her way to scoring nine points for the Falcons.
- Naomi Hotchkiss grabbed five rebounds for the Falcons on Saturday.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Leasure collected her second consecutive double-double for the Falcons on Saturday.
UP NEXT
The Falcons close out the season on the road next week when they travel to Western Washington on Thursday, Feb. 26, for a 7:00 p.m. game before playing Simon Fraser on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 5:15 p.m.
