Dukes’ Late Goal Caps SPU Comeback at Chico State

CHICO, Calif. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team opened its season on the road against Chico State on Thursday night, where the Falcons scored three unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes of the match, capped off by a game-winner from Logann Dukes to earn a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats.
  
FROM THE COACH
"Great performance tonight," head coach Arby Busey said. "We played a great second half. We came out from halftime firing on all cylinders. Led by our seniors, we found a way to get it done. Took everything we had tonight. Great momentum builder moving forward."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wildcats earned an early lead when Malia Bell scored in the 16th minute to put the home team up 1-0.
  • In the 66th minute, the Wildcats added to their lead when Aiyana Finley scored to put her team up 2-0.
  • Andie Buckley helped the Falcons chip into the Wildcats' lead in the 76th minute, when she snuck one in the lower right corner to move the score to 2-1.
  • Then in the 84th minute, Ava Suarez scored the equalizer off an assist from Sophie Haney that tied the match at 2-2.
  • Dukes became the hero in the 88th minute of the match, when she scored a laser into the upper right corner with an assist from Grace Coston.
  • The Falcons held on in the closing moments of the match to secure a 3-2 victory in the 2026 season opener.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • The Falcons launched 13 shots in the second half compared to just three in the first half.
    • Both the Falcons and the Wildcats finished the match with seven shots on goal.
  • The Falcons earned seven corner kicks to four from the Wildcats.
  • Ashlyn Voldavinos sent in a game-high three shots, with two of them being on goal.
  • Landry Schoennauer recorded a game-high five saves in 90 minutes of work in goal for the Falcons. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Buckley's first goal of 2026 was the ninth of her career with the Falcons.
  • Duke's game-winning goal was the first of her career with the Falcons.
