No. 2 Falcons Fall at Regis, 3-1, Ending Four-Match Winning Streak

DENVER, Colo. – The Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team played its first road match of the 2026 season on Thursday evening, when the second-ranked Falcons fell 3-1 to Regis, ending SPU's four-match winning streak.

FROM THE COACH
"It was a tough one tonight," head coach Kevin Sakuda said. "It's not an easy place to play, so conceding twice early makes that challenge even more difficult.  Regis played very well tonight, and they made plays consistently when it mattered.  We have a quick turnaround, but this is an opportunity for us to grow and show who we are when faced with a bit of adversity."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Thursday's match between the Falcons and the Rangers featured a flurry of goals in the first 10 minutes of the match.
  • In the 8th minute, Michael Ajagbe gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead when he scored a goal assisted by Liam Corr.
  • In the 9th minute, Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar added to the Rangers' lead with a goal assisted by Blaise Richard.
  • SPU answered quickly when Rafael Lucio scored in the 10th minute to move the score to 2-1 in favor of the Rangers.
  • The Rangers added another goal in the 59th minute, when Joakim Gunnar scored.
  • Regis held on to its 3-1 lead for the final 30 minutes of the match to secure the victory.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • The Rangers put up 12 shots against the Falcons, while SPU had nine shots in the match.
    • Regis had five shots on goal, while SPU placed four shots on target.
  • The Falcons had six corner kicks in the match, while the Rangers had none.
  • Lucio led the Falcons with two shots, one on goal, while seven Falcons had one shot each.
  • Willem Ficek played 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons, making two saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The Falcons are ranked second in this week's United Soccer Coaches National Poll.
  • The Rangers were ranked 20th a week ago and are receiving votes in the latest version of the USC National Poll.
  • Lucio has scored five goals in five matches for the Falcons, recording a goal in all but one match for SPU.
