Falcons Shut Out Saints for First GNAC Win

LACEY, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team traveled to Lacey, Wash., for a match against Saint Martin's on Thursday afternoon, with the Falcons picking up their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory of the season and their first shutout of the season by beating the Saints 3-0.
 
FROM THE COACH
"Hard-fought win today," head coach Arby Busey said. "Put in some work to achieve the victory. Saint Martin's asked a lot from us, and we battled throughout to get it done. A goal relatively early and two more late show the effort put in throughout the 90 minutes today. Time to get a ton of rest and get ready for Saturday at Interbay."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It didn't take long for the Falcons to grab a lead, as Piper Pasley and Nora Patterson linked together passes that led to a goal from Ashlyn Valdovinos in the 8th minute of the match.
  • Sophie Hanay added to the SPU lead in the 86th minute of the match, scoring an unassisted goal to put the Falcons up 2-0.
  • Even with time winding down, the Falcons kept the pressure on the Saints, as Hanay created a chance for Maddie Cook, who scored the final goal of the match for the Falcons.

  • The Falcons stayed active in attack, taking 18 shots throughout the match.
    • Eight of those shots were on goal.
  • The SPU defense kept the Saints quiet, with the home team amassing six shots with two on goal.
  • Patterson had a game-high six shots, with two being on goal.
  • Grace Coston had two shots on goal as well.
  • Landry Schoennauer played 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons, making two saves on her way to shutting out the Saints.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
