Dr. George Parker, a seasoned figure in both collegiate and professional basketball, began his coaching journey as part of former ABA teammate Claude Terry’s staff in 1986. His earlier coaching experience included serving as a graduate assistant and volunteer assistant to Terry Holland at the University of Virginia from 1979 to 1983.
A graduate of Saint Martin’s College in Lacey, Washington, in 1971, Parker left his mark as the Saints' No. 9 all-time career scorer, rebounder and was subsequently drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA that same year. After a period in the army, he returned to the court with the Baltimore Claws of the ABA in 1975. He later spent eight seasons with the Seattle Supersonics under coaches Bernie Bickerstaff, Casey Jones, and George Karl, where he was involved in player development, charting games, and coordinating chapel services. Parker also coached the Shorecrest High School girls' basketball team for three seasons.
In recognition of his contributions, Coach Parker was inducted into the Saint Martin’s University Hall of Fame in 1996 and honored with the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018.
Beyond his athletic career, Dr. Parker serves as a Technical Fellow, Technical Advisor, and Technical Lead Engineer at Boeing, where he leads a team of engineers, scientists, and technical analysts in performing investigative analyses. He and his wife, Margaret, reside in Shoreline, Washington, and have two children, Bryan and Maureen, as well as eight grandchildren.
